Abstract
Piroxicam is a NSAID, which is used in treating joint disorders. The use of oral pyroxics can cause damage to gastrointestinal, then the piroxicam gel is formulated. The aims of this study to know the physical quality and stability of piroxicam gel using ofcarbopol and Na-CMC as an edemaanti-inflammatory . The test animal used30 wistar rats and 1% carrageenan induced. Group 1 is given positive control, group 2 is given negative control, group 3 is given formula 1, group 4 is given formula 2, group 5 is given formula 3, and group 6 is given formula 4. Measurement of edema volume is doing before and after the carrageenan induced. The ability of the preparation in reducing the volume of edema can be calculated using the percentage of the percent anti-inflammatory power (% DAI) and AUC. The resultsof physical quality and stability of piroxicam gel present the physical change during preparationstorage, but the piroxicam gel preparation still has a good physical quality. Piroxicam gel on all formulas has the ability to reduce the volume of edema.The calculation resultof the%DAI presents the positive control of %DAI is 53.83%, the formula 1 is 33.69%, the formula 2 is 61.81%, the formula 3 is 41.31%, and the formula 4 is 41.4%, so the formula 2 which used 1% carbopol base and 2% Na-CMC is the most effective formula in reducing the volume of the udem of the rat’s feet.
