Abstract

Teratogenic test of Brotowali (Tinospora crispa) and Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza) herbs to white mice fetus (Mus musculus) Brotowali herbs and Temulawak is one of herbs consumed by Indonesian people. National social economic survey in 2001 increase in the use of traditional medicine from 2000 amounted to 15.6% to 30.2% in 2001. Knowing teratogenic in mice after giving brotowali and ginger herbs to pregnant mice and doses that cause teratogenic. This research used 35 white mice (Mus musculus) which is divided into 5 groups. The first group was given aquadest used as a healthy control group, the second group was given intravenous injection of cyclophosphamide 50 mg / kg body weight of mice. Treatment groups III, IV, and V were given Brotowali herbs and Temulawak 0.26; 0.52 and 1.04 ml / kg body weight of mice. Brotowali and Temulawak herbs given during organogenesis, on the 18th day the mice performed surgery on (laparactomy) to take the fetus of the mice. Observations of biometrics, gros morphology and sketal abnormalities were performed to see the effects of Brotowali herbs and Temulawak. The results of research on jamu brotowali and temulawak can cause teratogenic.
