Abstract

Cervical cancer is a leading cause of death in women due to HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) infection. Therapeutic treatments currently carried out chemotherapy with antisitotoxic drugs, but often cause side effects. To avoid these side effects, this study was conducted, with the aim of knowing the cytotoxic activity of strawberry extracts and fractions against HeLa cells, knowing the strawberry fractions that had the most potent cytotoxic activity, and knowing the selectivity index of extracts and strawberry fractions against normal cells. This sitotoxicity test uses MTT assay method with the working principle of MTT tetrazolium reduction which produces purple formazan crystals, then determines IC50 values to see cytotoxic activity and selectivity index values to see the level of security in normal cells. The results of the cytotoxicity test of extracts and fractions of strawberries on cervical cancer cell culture ie ethanol extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fractions had IC50 values of 869, 603, 486, and 665 μg / mL, respectively. All included in the category of less active because it has an IC50 value> 100 μg / mL but is still potential for HeLa cells. Ethyl acetate fraction has the smallest IC50 value compared to other samples. Ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and strawberry fruit juice have successive index selectivity of 4,246, 5,723, 5,175, 4,168 expressed selectively to normal cells.
