Abstract
Guava leaves (Psidium guajava L.) is one of the plants containing flavonoids. Flavonoids have been shown to be efficacious as antioxidants and have the ability to reduce free radicals,so it is thought to improve memory. This study aims to find out the effect of guava leaf extract in improving memory mencit and know the effective dose in improving memory. This research uses Radial Arm Maze method. Conducted on 25 white mice divided into 5 groups, consisting of, negative control group (CMC 0.5%), positive control group (Ginkgo biloba 9.75 mg/kg BB mice), group 3, 4, and 5 were given guava leaf extract with consecutive doses of 210, 420, and 840 mg/kg BB mice. The dose of treatment is given for 21days after induction of lead (II) acetate with a dose of 140 mg/kg BB mice. For 21 days (7th, 14th, 21st) before and after induction performed performance test using radial arm maze. The observed parameters are latency time and percent type B error. The results showed that the administration of ethanol extract of guava leaves can improve memory where the latency time decreases and the percent of type B error is smaller in lead-induced male white mice (II) acetate. The effective dose of ethanol extract of guava leaves that can improve memory is a dose of 420 mg/kg BB mice. Keywords: Memory, guava extract, latency time and percent error type B, Radial Arm Maze
