Abstract
Cut wounds are caused by objects or sharp instruments that occur with a mild pressure and scratches on the surface of the body. Treatment using povidone iodine had side effects of contact dermatitis thus inhibiting wound healing. Red andong leaves had tannins, saponins, flavonoids and steroids which can help heal wounds. Red horse cart leaves are made spray gel preparations that are easy to use and comfortable to wear on the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of red andong leaves extract spray gel on wound healing in New Zealand rabbits. Red andong leaf extract was obtained by maceration method and spray gel preparations made with a concentration of 15%, using carbohydrate and sorbitol gelling agents as humectants, then tested physical quality and stability. In this study using povidone iodine spray gel as a positive control and spray gel without extract as a negative control The most effective spray gel formula is formula III (carbopol 0,8 gram, and sorbitol 10 ml ) compared to formula I (carbopol 0,4 gram, sorbitol 5 ml) and II (carbopol 0,6 gram, and 7,5 ml) . Spray gel activity test on wound healing is done by observing the percentage of wound healing until it closes, then analyzed statistically. Using Two Way ANOVA showed that all the data tested were significantly different from the most active formula F3 (carbopol 0.8 gram, and sorbitol 10 ml).
