Abstract

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that is can treated using chemical drugs with side effects. The use of traditional medicine is an alternative companion.One of them is kangkung pagar leaves (Ipomoea carnea jacq). This research to determine the sedation effect of n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate and water extract of ethanolic leaf kangkung pagar using potential sedation method and to find out the compound group in the fraction that has the potential as a sedation. Kangkung pagar leaf powder was extracted by maceration method with 96% ethanol. A total of 30 rats were divided into 6 groups, namely negative control of CMC Na 0.5%, positive control of diazepam 0.02%, ethanol extract of kangkung pagar leaf dosage 200 mg / 200 gram bb, n-hexane fraction dose 1.225 mg / 200 gram bb, the ethyl acetate fraction dose 17.713 mg / 200 gram bb and the water fraction dose 21.074 mg / 200 gram bb and tested for activities using the sedation potentiation method. The results showed that extracts and fractions of kangkung pagar leaves of fence had a sedation effect but the effect was not yet comparable with positive control. The ethanol extract of kangkung pagar leaves has a stronger sedation effect than the fraction because the extract compound content is more than the fraction.
