Abstract
Naringenin is a flavonoid that has potential in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Low oral solubility and absorption make it more appropriate to be administered via topical route. Topical administration of naringenin loaded-transfersome system will provide more optimal therapeutic effect in the terapy atopic dermatitis. This study aims to examine ratio of phosphatidylcholine and tween 80 on the characteristics of transfersom naringenin and to determine the diffusion ability of transfersom naringenin gel preparations using Franz diffusion. Naringenin transfersome made in 4 formulas with variations of phosphatidylcholine and tween respectively formula I (97,5: 2,5), formula II (90:10), formula III (85: 15), formula IV (80: 20) using the evaporation-sonication method. The formulas characterized based on particle size, polydispersity index (PdI), and entrapment efficiency and then analyzed by SPSS software using one-way anova method to determine the best transfersome formula. Transfersome is formulated in a gel formulation and is subjected to a penetration test. The result showed that formula III (85: 15) provided the best characteristics of transfersome naringenin with an average particle size 115,6 nm, polydispersity index (PdI) 0,274, and an average entrapment efficiency is 90.91±0.47%. Transfersome naringenin gel preparation provides good characteristics and high penetration cumulative and rate. Keywords: Naringenin, Transfersome, Phosphatidylcholine, Tween 80, and Gel
