Abstract

Red pomegranate rind (Punica granatum L.) has punicalagin that has antioxidant activities. Peel-off gel mask is one type of face mask that has advantages in its use, which is easily lifted or released like an elastic membrane. The aim of this study was to determine the variation of PVA on the physical mask properties and the stability of red pomegranate ethanol extract which has antioxidant activities. Red pomegranate rind was extracted by maceration method using ethanol 96% as asolvent. The extracts made into gel mask preparations with a percentage of 10% and variations in PVA concentrations of 10% for F1, 12% for F2, 14% for F3, and 16% for F4. Antioxidant extracts and formulas were tested by the DPPH method (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrihydrazil) using spectrophotometry UV-Vis. Evaluation of physical properties, organoleptic , homogenity, pH, stability, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, drying time and irritation test on respondents. The data were analyzed statistically using SPSS. The results showed that the variation in the concentration of PVA could affect the physical quality and stability of the preparations in the formula. F1 preparations in formulas up to F4 have good physical quality, but only F3 and F4 provide the best stability results. This F3 preparation is the best formula because it shows the results of antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 187.37 ppm Keyword: antioxidant, peel-off gel mask, PVA, red pomegranate rind ethanol extract.
