Abstract

Typhoid fever is an inflammatory disease caused by Salmonella typhi bacterial infection. The acute infection caused by these bacteria causes typhoid fever or typhoid abdominalis. The aim of this study was to analyze the cost-effectiveness of treatment in inpatients of typhoid fever at Karanganyar District Hospital using cefotaxime and ceftriaxone antibiotic therapy. This type of research is non-experimental with a retrospective descriptive research design. This research was conducted at the Karanganyar District Hospital from August to December 2019 regarding the treatment of typhoid fever for 60 patients. The effectiveness of drug therapy was measured based on RR. The statistical analysis carried out was the Kalmogrorov Smirnov Test then the independent-test. The results showed that the percentage of effectiveness of using cefotaxime 76% and ceftriaxone 90% in typhoid fever patients who were hospitalized at the Karanganyar District Hospital, the cefotaxime therapy group obtained an ACER value of Rp. 4,776, the ceftriaxone therapy group obtained an ACER value of Rp. 6,402, but due to the higher therapeutic effectiveness of ceftriaxone compared to cefotaxime, ceftriaxone is the most cost effective compared to cefotaxime.
