Abstract

Cancer is abnormal or uncontrolled growth cells in the body. Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. Kalanchoe sp contain of alkaloids, triterpenes, lipids, flavonoids, glycosides, bufadienolide, phenols, and organic acids. This research aims to determine the cytotoxic potential of Kalanchoe sp to the study of various cancer cell cultures, to determine the class of compounds contained in Kalanchoe sp which has potential to inhibit cytotoxic activity and to determine the effect of different solvents can affect the cytotoxic activity of Kalanchoe sp on various cancer cell cultures. The research method used is qualitative research method with type of descriptive research. The data resource is obtained from secondary data from leading publisher which published between 2014-2016. The data collection technique using triangulation, i.e., a data collection technique which combines multiple data collection and existing data sources. The study of cytotoxic activity was carried out using a literature review to determine cytotoxic activity of Kalanchoe sp to various cancer cell cultures. The result of the cytotoxic activity study showed that Kalanchoe sp has cytotoxic activity to various cancer cell cultures (HeLa cells, MCF-7 cells, HL-60 cells, melanoma cells, fibroblast cells, glioblastoma cells, SKOV-3 cells, SCPC212 cells, A549 cells, H-9 cells, J45.01 cells, brine shrimp nauplii) with parameter IC50 cells. The extract of Kalanchoe sp contains classes of flavonoids which has potential to inhibit cytotoxic activity. The effect of different solvents can affect the cytotoxic activity of Kalanchoe sp on various cancer cell cultures. Keywords: Cytotoxic, Kalanchoe sp, cancer cell
