Abstract
Water pumpkin fruit (Lagenaria siceraria) (Molina) Standl.) Contains flavonoids which function as antiinflamatory and antibacterial, while saponins function as antiseptics. This study aims to determine the ethanol extract or water pumpkin fruit can be formulated into a gel that has good physical quality and stability, as well as to determine the effective concentration of the water pumpkin fruit ethanol extract gel as a healing for second degree burns. Extraction of water pumpkin fruit was obtained by maceration with 70% ethanol made in gel preparations with a concentration of 7%, 12%, and 17%. Evaluation of the gel includes organoleptic, homogenity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, and stability test at room temperature. The test used 5 New Zealand rabbits then divided into 5 treatments for each rabbit’s back, smearing the ethanol extract gel formula of water pumpkin fruit with concentration 7%, 12%, and 17%, negative control (without extract) and positive control (Bioplasenton®) for 14 days. The results of the measurement of wound diameter were statistically analyzed using two way Anova The results of the physical quality test and stability of the gel decreased in the pH test, adhesion test, viscosity test and increase in the spreadability test. Gel formula with a concentration of 17% showed effective results in healing burns with an average percentage of burn healing that was almost equivalent to the positive control of 87,750% Key words: water pumpkin fruit, seconds degree burns activity, gel.
