Abstract

Infection is one of the most common causes of disease in a country that has a tropical climate as in Indonesia. Infectious diseases that often occur in the skin can be caused by bacteria. Bacteria that often cause disorders of the skin are Staphylococcus aureus. This research aims to determine the preparation of Areca nut seed extract (Areca catechu L.) which is made to meet the good physical quality and to know the antibacterial activity of betel seed Extract Against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Betel nut is extracted using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. Betel seed extract is made in a cream dosage with concentrations of 8, 10, and 12%. Testing physical quality of the preparation of cream includes organoleptical test, homogenity, viscosity, pH, coverage and adhesiveness. The testing method of antibacterial activity used in this study uses the diffusion method of discs. The results showed that a 10% concentration cream was filled with organoleptical test, homogenity, pH, adhesion test and spread power test. The higher the concentration, the lower the spread power, the greater the viscosity resistance and the longer the power. Results from the research journal Riview showed that Pinang plants can inhibit gram-positive bacteria with a concentration of 10% (12.07 mm); 20% (13.63 mm); 0.5% (2 mm); 1.25% (0, 95mm); 10% (15.5 mm); 2% (14.5 mm); 1% (7.66 mm); 30% (12.5 mm) and 10% (8 mm and 27.45 mm). Pharmaceutical preparations of betel nut extracts showing the pharmacy preparations of betel nut can inhibit gram-positive bacteria with a consenration of 1.5% (14.48 mm; 14.15 mm; 10.17 mm and 7.28 mm).
