Abstract

Commercial sex workers are groups in the societies who often spread sexually transmitted disease (STD) or sexually transmitted infection (STI). STI rate in developing countries like Indonesia is quite high. One of significant STI is Trichomoniasis which is transmitted by Trichomonas vaginalis parasite. Trichomoniasis develops vaginitis symptoms in women and urethritis symptoms in men. In order to prevent the transmission STI through commercial sex workers, regular screening and medication on infected commercial sex workers need to be done. The area of RRI in Banjarsari, Surakarta is a place where commercial sex workers work. Therefore, the writer is interested to choose this area as the research location in order to identify Trichomonas vaginalis in urine samples. This study aims at investigating the existence of Trichomonas vaginalis parasite in the urine of commercial sex workers in the area of RRI in Banjarsari, Surakarta. Direct examination (wet smear) was the fastest and easiest method. A total of 20 samples of urine of commercial sex workers were used. On the basis of the examination results on 20 samples, Trichomonas vaginalis parasites are not found (0%). This is so for commercial sex workers in the area of RRI Banjarsari have the urine tested regularly (twice a week). Keywords: urine, commercial sex workers, Trichomonas vaginalis.
