Abstract

Dandruff is one of the cuases of problems on the scalp with the appearance of flakes of the scalp, itching of the scalp and redness of the scalp. Dandruff is caused by the production of excess oil glands on the scalp or mushrooms. The fungus that causes dandruff is Candida albicans. Based on the research that has been done, the leabes of wuluh starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) contain flavonoids, tannins, and saponnins which are useful as an antifungal. The wuluh starfruit leaves are then formulated into an anti-dandruff shampoo using various concentrations of sodium lauryl sulfate. The study aims to examine the physical properties of shampoo preparations, to see the ability of the antifungal activity against fungus Candida albicans, and to determine the formula witth the most effective activity of the variation in the concentration of sodium lauryl sulfate shampoo preparation that is active against the fungus Candida albicans. The leaves of starfruit were extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol as a solvent. The extract was formulated into 3 formulations with various concentrations of sodium lauryl sulfate 5%, 10%, and 15%. The shampoo was then tested for organoleptic, pH, viscosity, high foam, and antifungal activity Candida albicans. The resulting data was then performed statistical analysis using the SPSS application with One Way ANOVA test. The conclusion of this study is that the shampoo preparation of wuluh starfruit leaf extract with various concentration of sodium lauryl sulfate has an effect on the physical quality of the shampoo preparation and has the antifungal activity of Candida albicans. The variation in the concentration of 15% sodium lauryl sulfate which has the best physical quality values including pH of 5,86, viscosity of 91.7 dPas, and high foam of 5,4 cm and has the antifungal activity of Candida albicans most active 18,07 mm.
