Abstract

Hyperglycemic is a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal (>200mg/dl). Tomatoes fruit (Solanum lycopersicum L.) contain lycopene which function to lower blood glucose by inhibiting insulin hormone resistance, so that cell tolerance increase and excess blood sugar levels can be overcome. In this study, the aim of this study was to determine the presence of antihyperglycemic activity of tomato extract and the effective dose that can be given to alloxan-induced mice. The test was carried out using 25 male mice induced by 150 mg alloxan which had previously measured blood sugar levels in mice (To). Each group of tested animals was given CMC Na 0,5% mice (negative control), metformin 65 mg /kgBB mice (positive control), tomato fruit extract 130 mg/kgBB mice (dose I), tomato fruit extract 260 mg/kgBB mice (dose II), and tomato fruit extract 520 mg/kgBB mice (dose III). Glucose levels were measured again on days 3, 6, and 20. The results of measuring blood sugar levels pf the mice were analyzed using the one way ANOVA test. The results showed that the higher the tomato fruit extract dose, the grater the effect of reducing blood sugar levels. The percentage reduction in blood sugar levels achieved by each dose is 17,10%, 32,58%, and 26,44%. Keywords : hyperglycemic, tomato fruit, alloxan
