Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in many countries. Cervical cancer is caused by infection with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) types 16 and 18. This study aims to determine the most potent cytotoxic activity of faloak stem bark extract and fraction against HeLa cells, and to determine the composition of the compound group of the most potent fraction in cytotoxic activity. Extraction method using remaceration then fractionation using liquid-liquid extraction method. The cytotoxicity test in this study used the MTTmethod Assay. The results of the cytotoxic test in the form of uptake responses were converted into percent of cell life and continued analysis to determine linear regression between the log concentration of the test sample versus percent of live cells using Microsoft Excel 2019. The ICvalues50 of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, and water fraction were 140.2814 g/mL, 127.6439 g/mL, and 68.0769 g/mL, respectively. The most potent fraction in anticancer activity in this study was the ethyl acetate fraction with an ICvalue50 of 26.6686 g/mL. Testing the group of compounds in the most potent fraction using TLC contained quinones, flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenols.
