Abstract

Basil plants have a compound that acts as an antibacterial namely tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and steroids. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of n-hexane, etilasetate, and water fractions from basil leaf extract against Propionibacterium acne. Basil leaf powder is extracted by maceration method with ethanol solvent 96%. The extract obtained is diffractionated with solvents n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. The fractionation results tested antibacterial activity against propionibacterium acne bacteria using diffusion methods with concentrations of 20%, 40%, and 80% to determine the most active fractions. Statistical analysis uses ANOVA oneway to determine whether there are significant differences between test preparations. The results showed the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fractions of basil leaves had antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acne. Ethyl acetate fraction is the most active fraction with a bland diameter of 22.06 mm at a concentration of 80%, 19 mm of concentration of 40% and 16.5 mm of concentration of 20%.
