Abstract

Avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill) contain active substances that have the potential as antioxidants, substances that have been identified in avocado leaves include flavonoids, saponins, tannins. The purpose of this study was to determine the avocado leaf extract (Persea americana Mill) has antioxidant activity in vitro using the DPPH and in vivo methods against white rats of the wistar strain and to determine the effective dose of ethanol extract of avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill) which can be used as antioxidants. In vitro testing using the DPPH test method. In vivo testing on male white rats which were divided into five groups with treatment K1 (given Hemaviton C1000®), K2 (given CMC Na 0.5%), K3 (dose of avocado leaf extract 8 mg/200 gram body weight rats), K4 (dose of avocado leaf extract 16 mg/200 grams of body weight rats), and K5 (dose of avocado leaf extract 24 mg/200 grams of body weight). The results of in vitro analysis showed that the IC50 value of avocado leaf extract was 62.229 ppm. The conclusion of this study is that avocado leaf extract has active antioxidant activity because it is in the range of 50-100 ppm and has an effective dose of 24mg/200gBB.
