Abstract

Mango mistletoe leaves (Dendrophthoe pentandra L. Miq) contains saponins, tannins, and flavonoids that can inhibiting arachidonic acid, action of calcium ions, and cyclooxygenase metabolic pathway so it can be used as antiplatelet drug. This study aims to determine the antiplatelet effect and the effective dose of ethanol extract of the leaves of the mango parasite on increasing the duration of bleeding time and coagulation time in white male mice. This study used 25 male white mice which were divided into 5 test groups with each group containing 5 mice, that is: group of negative control (CMC Na 1%), group of positive control (Aspirin 10,4 mg/kgBW for mice), ethanol extract of the leaves of the mango mistletoe dose 280; 560; 1.120 mg/kgBW for mice, each group is given orally once daily during 7 days and measurements of parameters bleeding time and clotting time at day-0 before treatment and day-9th after treatment. The data obtained were then analyzed statistically using the SPSS program. The results showed that the ethanol extract of the leaves of the mango parasite could provide an antiplatelet effect as indicated by an increase in the duration of bleeding time and clotting time in male white mice and the ethanol extract of the leaves of the mango mistletoe at a dose of 560 mg/kgBW for mice was a dose that provided an antiplatelet effect comparable to aspirin as a positive control. Keywords : antiplatelet, mango mistletoe leaves, clotting time, bleeding time.
