Abstract
The pomegranate plant comes from the Middle East which can be found in subtropical to tropical areas. In addition to the fruit that can be consumed, this ornamental plant is also useful as a source of medicine. The purpose of the study was to determine whether or not there was a potential antibacterial activity of white pomegranate leaves (Punica granatum L.) against the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 tested bioautography. Antibacterial activity was using a bioautography methods to detect the content of bioactive compounds in P. granatum leaves that have antibacterial activity through eluted chromatograms and tested on the bacterium S. aureus ATCC 25923. The antibacterial activity test of the well diffusion method to determine the diameter of the inhibition zone used a concentration series of 10%, 20%, and 30% with a volume of 50 μL per well. The results of the antibacterial activity test of white pomegranate leaf extract showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The effective concentration as an antibacterial in white pomegranate leaves extract was 10% with an inhibition zone of 20,90 mm. The group of compounds capable of inhibiting the activity of Staphylococcus aureus was not detected with the bioautography method.
