Abstract
Chamomile flower (Matricaria chamomilla L.) is a plant that can grow in cool places. The chemical content contained in chamomile flowers are Antibacterial activities of flavonoids, tanins, and saponins. This study was conducted to determine the antibacterial ethanol extract activity, n-hexane fraction activity, ethyl acetate fraction activity, and chamomile water fraction against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, find out the best active fraction and Minimum Bactericidal Content (MBC) and Inhibition Zone Concentration (MIC) from the most active fraction of 70% ethanol extract of chamomile flowers. Chamomile flowers powder was macerated with 70% ethanol solvent and then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water as solvent. The result of extractionation by chamomile flowers were tested for antibacterial activity using the diffusion method with disc paper and the dilution method against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The concentration were usesed in the diffusion method need concentrations of 75%, 50%, and 25% then continu tested thrugh the dilution method. The dilution method The MIC and MBC were determined using these methods. values that can be produced by the most active fraction of chamomile flowers, the concentration were used in the dilution method are 75%; 37,5%; 18,75%; 9,375%; 4,687%; 2,343%; 1,171%; 0,585%. Results of the data difution test obtained were analyzed by ANOVA. The result showed that the ethanol extract, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and chamomile water had bacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The ethyl acetate fraction was the most active. with the MBC is 9,375%. Keyword: antibacterial, chamomile flowers (Matricaria chamomilla L), fraction, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.
