Abstract

Celery herb (Apium graveolen L.) a natural substance which is containing antifungal compound namely, flavonoid, tannin, alkaloid, and saponin. In this research celery herb is formulationed as antifungal hair tonic. The purpose of this research was to know the physical properties of hair tonic celery extract, their activities as antifungal against Candida albicans fungus, and the best formulation of celery hair tonic extract. Celery herb was extractioned by maserasi method with ethanol solvent. The preparation of hair tonic with four formula was made, each formula contains different concentration of extract (Apium graveolen L. leaf ethanol extract) which is, 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%. After that the organoleptic, pH, viscosity. Density of hair tonic were evaluated, also their activities as antifungal against Candida albicans. The data was analyzed by SPSS application with one way ANOVA test. Hair tonic preparations with extract concentrations of 6%, 8%, 10%, and 12% have good physical quality because all formulas meet the requirements of pH, density, and viscosity tests. Addition of extracts can increase pH, density, and viscosity. The diameter of inhibitory zone of formulation of 6% concentration extract was 11mm, which the formulation of 8% concentration extract was 14.5mm, the formulation of 10% concentration extract was 18.9mm, and the formulation of 12% concentration extract was 23.2mm.
