Abstract
Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. The cause of cervical cancer 70% comes from Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) types 16 and 18. Treatment of cervical cancer using chemotherapy can cause side effects to patients. To avoid these side effects, this study was conducted with the aim of knowing the cytotoxic activity of the extract and fraction of kecombrang flowers against HeLa cells, and knowing the fraction of kecombrang flowers that had the most potent cytotoxic activity against HeLa cells. In this study, kecombrang flowers were extracted using the remaceration method with 96% solvent. Fractionation using n-hexane and ethyl acetate. Phytochemical screening was done by tube test and TLC. Tests were carried out in vitro using HeLa cells at the Biomedical Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University. Cytotoxic test was carried out using the MTTmethod Assay with a series concentration of 1.875 g/mL; 3.75 g/mL; 7.81 g/mL; 15.75 g/mL; 31.25 g/mL; 62.5 g/mL; 125 g/mL; 250 g/mL and then calculated the ICvalue50 using linear regression. The test results cytotoxic ethanol extract,fraction, n-heksan ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction of interest kecombrang have activity against HeLa cancer cells with ICvalues50 in a sequence of 124.738 mg / mL, 50.350 mg / mL, 30.832 mg / mL, and 143,219 g/mL. Where the ethyl acetate fraction has the most potent activity with an ICvalue50 of 30.832 g/mL. Keywords: kecombrang flower, Etlingera elatior, Hela cells, cytotoxic
