Abstract
Side effects comsumed paracetamol are toxic effects on hepatocyte organs and liver. The ethanol extract of legundi leaves (Vitex trifolia L.) has activity as a hepatoprotector. The content of compounds contained in legundi leaves are flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins, steroids, glycosides, and triterpenoids. This study aimed to determine the hepatoprotective activity of the ethanol extract of legundi leaves against male white rats induced by paracetamol. This study used white male rats (Wistar strain) with six control groups with doses of ethanol extract of legundi leaves (20, 30, and 40) mg/kgBB, normal control, negative control, and positive control. On day 0 and 14 rats were drawn blood through the orbital sinus of the rat's eyes to measure the levels of SGOT, SGPT, and see the histopathology. Paracetamol was given on the 10-14th day in a row, then for 10 days the treatment was given according to the test group. Measurement of SGOT and SGPT levels using a photometer and observing the histopathological with a microscope, then values followed by SPSS analysis. The results of this study indicated that the ethanol extract of legundi leaves had hepatoprotective activity induced by toxic doses of paracetamol. Legundi leaf extract at a dose of 40 mg/kgBB which was effective had a hepatoprotective effect with a decrease in SGOT 10.94% and SGPT 19.90% and liver histopathology results showed that the number of results was not significantly different from the positive control of curcuma with total damage of 45, the normal cell count was 55 while the positive control total was 40 and the normal cell count was 60.
