Abstract
White turi plant (Serbania grandiflora Pers.) contains several active compounds, namely tannins, flavonoids and saponins that can inhibit the growth of C. albicans. Based on these active compounds, lozenges were made. This study aims to determine the white turi leaf extract can be made lozenges with good physical quality and stability, and to determine the antifungal activity of the white turi leaf extract lozenges on the growth of C. albicans ATCC 10231 which was the most effective in vitro. White turi leaf extract was obtained by maceration method and using 70% ethanol as solvent. This study used a variant of the concentration of the active substance 10, 15, and 20%. Making lozenges with wet granulation and the weight of each tablet is 500 mg. The lozenges were tested for physical quality including weight uniformity, hardness, friability, dissolution time, stability and antifungal activity tests on the most effective growth of C. albicans ATCC 10231. Data from the result of physical quality, stability and antifungal activity tests were analyzed using two methods, namely theoretical and statistical approaches. The results of the research on lozenges after physical quality testing included weight uniformity, hardness, friability met the requirements of good and stable as seen from the soluble time test after 12 days of storage at room temperature. All lozenges had activity against the growth of the fungus C. albicans ATCC 10231 with inhibitory diameters at concentrations of 10, 15, 20% of 13.5; 15.5; and 17.1 mm. While the lozenge formula with a concentration of 10% had the most effective antifungal activity with an inhibition zone of 13.5 mm and the best physical quality and stability test of lozenges.
