Abstract

Hyperuricemia is characterized by increased levels of uric acid. Potato peels contain chlorogenic acid, a flavonoid group, which can reduce uric acid levels in the blood and inhibit the work of the xanthine oxidase enzyme in the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of potato peels ethanol extract on reducing uric acid levels in the blood of hyperuricemic male white mice and to determine the effective dose. This research used maceration method with 70% ethanol as solvent. The test animals used were 25 male white mice which were divided into 5 groups including the 0.5% CMC group, the allopurinol group, and the potato peels ethanol extract group with 3 different doses (1400 mg/kg BW, 2800 mg/kg BW , 5600 mg/kg BW). The test animals were made hyperuricemic and the blood uric acid levels of male white mice were measured on the 0, 7, 14, and 21 days. The results showed that the ethanol extract of potato peels at a dose of 1400 mg/kg BW, 2800 mg/kg BW, and 5600 mg/g BW could be used to reduce uric acid levels in the blood of hyperuricemic male white mice. The effective dose in reducing blood uric acid levels in male white mice was 2800 mg/kg BW. Keywords: potato peels, chlorogenic acid, hyperuricemia, gout.
