Abstract

Free radicals are compounds with free electrons that are unstable, short-lived, and highly reactive. Antioxidants are compounds that slow down, delay, or inhibit the reaction of oxidation. Kaffir lime peel essential oil (Citrus hystrix DC.) contains flavonoids, citronellals, carotenoids, limonoids, and minerals. The purposes of this research are to determine the properties of physical quality and stability, as well as the highest concentration of kaffir lime peel essential oil (Citrus hystrix DC.) used as a Sun Protecting Factor (SPF) which was made in Emulgel. Kaffir lime peel essential oil (Citrus hystrix DC.) was made emulgel 3 concentration variations of 10%; 15%; and 20%. Emulgel was tested for physical quality including organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersibility, adhesion and stability by cycling test method.Test the emulgel activities as a Sun Protecting Factor (SPF) in vitro using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. The data were analyzed using SPSS application with Kolmogorov Smirow test, levene’s test homogen, anova, and paired T test. The results of the research showed that the concentration of kaffir lime peel essential oil emulgel was 10%; 15%; and 20% have good physical quality and stability. The SPF value base emulgel was 1.10 and kaffir lime peel essential oil emulgel for each base concentration was 10%; 15%; and 20%; was 22.90; 39.95; and 49.89. The highest SPF value was emulgel with a concentration of 20% with SPF value of 49.89 which was included in the ultra protection category.
