Abstract

Banana plant (Musa paradisiaca L.) is a plant that has benefits as traditional medicine. Banana peel (Musa paradisiaca L.) Raja variety contains flavonoids and saponins, which have antioxidant activity. This study aims to determine which fraction has the strongest antioxidant activity expressed in the IC50 value. Extraction was carried out by maceration using ethanol as a solvent, then the ethanolic extract of plantain peel was fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water as solvents. Testing of antioxidant activity using the DPPH method (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl) with routine as a comparison. The results showed that the banana peel (Musa paradisiaca L.) raja variety had antioxidant activity with IC50 values of ethanol extract, hexane fraction, water fraction and ethyl acetate fraction 44.86 ppm, respectively; 122.26 ppm; 68.80 ppm; and 18.22 ppm, the ethyl acetate fraction had the strongest activity compared to others.
