Abstract

Infection is the most common disease and one of the microorganisms that triggers infection is Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus can cause many types of infections, including infections on the skin surface that manifests as an abscesses or acne. Centell asiatica leaves can be used to treat infections because they contain flavonoids, tannins and saponins that function as antibacterial. This study aims to make an emulgel preparation of ethanol extract of Centella asiatica leaves and to test its physical quality, stability and activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study used three formulas whit different extracts concentrations, namely 0,5%, 1% and 2%. Emulgel preparations were tested for organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, spreadability and stability tests. Testing activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria using the well diffusion method. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Centella asiatica leaf emulgel preparations had physical qualities that met the requirements and were stable. Emulgel preparations with extract concentration of 0,5%, 1% and 2% can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and emulgel preparations with extract concentration of 2% show the best inhibition.
