Abstract
Hyperglycemia is characterized by increased levels of glucose in the blood. Potato skins contain flavonoid chlorogenic acid which can lower blood glucose levels and stimulate blood glucose uptake. This study aims to determine the effect of potato peel ethanol extract in reducing blood glucose levels in hyperglycemic male mice and to determine the effective dose. This research the maceration method with 70% ethanol as solvent. The test animals used 25 male white mice which were divided into 5 groups, namely the 0.5% CMC group, the glibenclamide group, and the potato peel ethanol extract group with 3 different doses (87,5 mg; 175 mg; 350 mg/kg BB). The test animals were made hyperglycemic by being induced by alloxan and the blood glucose levels of mice were measured on days 0, 3, 10, 17 with the ANOVA analysis test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of potato skin at a dose of 87,5 mg; 175 mg; 350 mg/kg BB could reduce blood glucose levels in hyperglycemic male mice. The effective dose in reducing blood glucose in mice was 350 mg/ kg BB. Keywords: potato peels, chlorogenic acid, glibenclamide, hyperglycemia.
