Abstract

Class Magnoliopsida plants are plants that have seeds in two pieces, cambium, pinnateleaves and woodystems. Class Magnoliopsida plants have properties that can inhibit antibacterial activity. The ingredients contained in Class Magnoliopsida plants include flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, triterpenoids, and saponins that can inhibit antibacterial activity that causes dental caries. Streptococcus mutans is one of the bacteria that causes dental caries, so the study was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of Class Magnoliopsida plants against Streptococcus mutans bacteria. This research is a combination of experimental and literature study. Experimental tests were carried out in the laboratory, namely plant determination, determination of powder moisture content, identification of compound content in extracts and identification of Streptococcus mutans bacteria while, literature study testing to determine antibacterial activity by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration in the strong category against Streptococcus mutans bacteria based on inclusion criteria, namely journal with the topic of antibacterial activity of extracts from Magnoliopsida class plants against Streptococcus mutans bacteria and the year of publication of the journal is not more than ten years. Based on the results of the literature study, extracts from Magnoliopsida class plants that have a minimum inhibitory concentration in the strong category against Streptococcus mutans bacteria are water leaf extract with a concentration of 6.25% (62,200 g/mL) using turbidimetric testing.
