Abstract

Alpha arbutin is a hydroquinone derivative that has a C12H16O7 molecular structure. Serum is a preparation with a highly concentrated active substance that has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin to deliver the active substance into the skin, has a low viscosity and the active substance is delivered by forming a thin film on the surface of the skin. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the concentration of carbopol 940 as a gelling agent in the manufacture of serum alpha arbutin preparations, to determine the best formula for the evaluated serum alpha arbutin, and to evaluate the evaluation and characteristics of the alpha arbutin serum formulations. Serum alpha arbutin formula was made with 3 variations of carbopol 940 concentrations of 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1%. The resulting serum preparations were tested for physical quality including organoleptic, pH, viscosity, homogeneity, and stability tests. The results of the first study showed that differences in the concentration of carbopol 940, namely 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%, could affect the stability and physical quality which included organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, viscosity tests, pH tests, stability tests, dispersion tests, and tests. adhesion. Both were evaluated from the physical quality which included organoleptic test, homogeneity test, viscosity test, pH test, stability test, dispersion test, and adhesion test. The best formula was obtained, namely in formula I with a concentration of carbopol 940 0.5%. Because the results of the organoleptic test form meet the serum gel parameters, namely the gel is transparent, viscous, stable and there are no bubbles in the preparation.
