Abstract

Stapylococcus aureus is the bacteria that causes acne. Lotio kumerfeldi is known as a powerful remedy to treat acne. The sulfur content in the lotion has antibacterial properties. Betel leaf extract (Piper betle Linn.) has antibacterial activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of modified lotio kumerfeldi with ethanol extract of betel leaf against S. aureus ATCC 25923. Betel leaf extract using 70% ethanol solvent, extraction process by maceration method, then carried out a phytochemical screening test. Betel leaf extract was formulated with a modified lotio kumerfeldi using a concentration of 5%, 10% and 25%. Antibacterial activity test against S.aureus ATCC 25923 using the wellbore diffusion method. The results of the diameter of the inhibition zone were analyzed using the SPSS statistical test. The results showed that the modified lotio kumerfeldi with ethanol extract of betel leaf had antibacterial activity against S.aureus ATCC 25923. The inhibitory power formed at concentrations of 5%, 10% and 25% with an average of 11 mm, 14 mm, and 16 mm. The most effective concentration in inhibiting S.aureus is 25%.
