Abstract
Antibacterial is a substance that can inhibit the growth of bacteria and can kill bacteria that cause infection. Garlic contains antibacterial compounds, namely allicin, flavonoids and saponins.bacteria Staphylococcus aureus can cause skin infections such as boils, acne, impetigo, and wound infections, so it needs to be overcome by making extracts in cream preparations. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of garlic extract cream and to determine the concentration of the most effective garlic extract cream in inhibiting the growth of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Garlic extract was obtained by maceration method using 96% ethanol as solvent. Garlic extract cream was made in three formulas, namely F1, F2, and F3 with a concentration of 10%, 15%, and 20% garlic extract. Cream preparations were tested for physical quality including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, and viscosity tests. Antibacterial activity test was carried out by disc diffusion method against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus with equates negative control and mupirocin cream positive control. The results showed that the garlic extract cream met the requirements of a good physical quality test. Garlic extract cream has antibacterial activity against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus with an average diameter of 10% cream at 14.7 mm, 15% at 17 mm, and 20% at 21.7 mm. The most effective concentration of garlic extract cream was to inhibitbacteria Staphylococcus aureus with a concentration of 20%.
