Abstract
Mint (Mentha piperita L.) is a plant that grows and is widespread in tropical and sub-tropical regions, including Indonesia. Mint plants with compounds such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, saponins, tannins, mint leaf triterpenes can also be used as antifungal, anti-viral, and antibacterial (Handayani, 2020). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mint leaf extract (Mentha Piperita L.) on the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. The extraction method in this study was carried out using maceration and 70% ethanol as solvent. Identification of chemical compounds of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and titerpenoids using a test tube to determine the active compounds contained in mint leaves. The inhibition test of mint leaf extract was carried out using the disc diffusion method to determine the inhibition or clear zone. This treatment was carried out 3 times. The results of the inhibition test of mint leaf extract against Escherichia coli bacteria did not have a clear zone around the growth.
