Abstract

Nail polish is a nail makeup preparation that is used to coat nails with a colorless layer or color nails with colors, both light colors and real contrast colors, according to the desired nail aesthetic. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of Rhodamine B in nail polish circulating in Surakarta and to determine whether nail polish can be analyzed by thin layer chromatography, paper chromatography and staining tests. This study uses a qualitative method of Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) which is one of the qualitative analyzes of a sample to be detected by separating the components of the sample based on differences in polarity. Coloring Test is a test of reacting between substance A and substance B which will cause changes such as color changes, precipitates or become colorless. The results of the analysis of Rhodamine B on nail polish circulating in Surakarta were tested for 5 samples A, B, C, D, E from 5 samples of code C positive containing Rhodamine B with a qualitative test of thin layer chromatography and obtained an Rf of 0.75, in the color test after being tested for rhodamine B, it was seen that there was a color change to the bottom layer or a reddish-purple acid layer.
