Abstract
Clove leaf is one of the herbal medicinal plants containing saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and essential oil, eugenol. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of clove leaf extract against the growth of Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Literature search using Google Scholar, Mendeley and SINTA. The journals were selected according to the research topic and then selected with a range of 2011-2021 (10 years) obtained 16 journals, found 8 non-accredited national journals, 5 SINTA-accredited national journals and 3 international journals. The results from the literature showed that clove leaf extract with concentrations of 10%, 20% and 25% produced an inhibition zone of 9 mm; 9,9 mm and 12 mm in Escherichia coli bacteria, concentrations of 10%, 20% and 25% resulted in an inhibition zone of 11,40 mm; 16,76 mm and 16,90 mm in Salmonella typhi bacteria, and concentrations of 10%, 20% and 25% resulted in an inhibition zone of 15,5 mm; 18 mm and 17 mm in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Based on a literature study, it was found that clove leaf extract had antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus and clove leaf extract was the most active against Staphylococcus aureus.
