Abstract

Celery is one kind of plants that has many benefits; one of them is use as diuretic. The purpose of this experiment is to know the effectiveness of celery ethanol extract (Apium graveolens L.) as diuretic and the relation with the dose increasing of celery ethanol extract (Apium graveolens L.) in galur wistar white male rat. There were 25 animal being tested and divided into five groups with different treatment, those are : negative control group (suspension CMC 0,5 %), positive control group (furosemide suspension), celery ethanol extract 40 mg/KgBB group, celery ethanol extract 80 mg/KgBB group, and celery ethanol extract 160 mg/KgBB group. The testing to diuretic effect done by observing the volume of urine produced in six hours. The result of the experiment is the diuretic activity increasing in the giving of celery ethanol extract. Data analysis used spss real difference and every treatment tested used one way ANOVA and continued by Tukey test to see the difference in every group treatment. The celery ethanol extract 160 mg/KgBB shows the best diuretic activity. The dose increasing in celery ethanol extract did not show any significant difference. Based on the result, it can be concluded that celery ethanol extract has effectiveness as diuretic. Keywords : Celery (Apium graveolens L.), Flvonoid, Diuretic.
