Abstract

Infectious disease is a disease is very easy to adapt to its surroundings. This desease can be caused by several microorganisms, one of which is Staphylococcus aureus. Gewang leaves (Corypha utan Lamk) contain various ingredients including alkaloids, falvonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids that have the potential to treat infectious diseases caused by S. aureus bacteria. The Purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of the fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, water, and ethanol extract of gewang leaves against Staphylococcus aureus. This research was also carried out to see the most active fraction and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Germination Concetration (KBM) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The research was conducted using the maceration extraction method using 70% ethanol as a solvent. Antibacterial activity tetst using the diffusion method used concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20% and the dilution method using a concentration series 20%, 10%, 5%, 2,5%, 1,25%, 0,62%, 0,31%, 0,15%. The positif control used was amoxicillin and the negative control was DMSO 5%. The results of testing the antibacterial activity of 70% ethanol extract of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fractions showed the presence of inhibition at a concentration of 20% using the well diffusion method with an average inhibitory diameter of 18.33 mm. The result of the analysis of statistical data using the Kruskak-Wallis method showed significant result, namely <0,05, meaning that the data was acceptable, The fraction that had the most acitive antibacterial activity from the ethanolic extrac of gewang leaves was the ethyl acetate fraction. Research using the dulition method showed that there was a Minimum Kill Concentration of the ethyl acetate fraction at a concentration of 2,5%.
