Abstract
Pneumonia is an infectious disease that occurs in the lower respiratory tract which is the main cause of death in children under five years. Evaluation of the use of antibiotics in this study used the Gyssens method. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of any antibiotics used and to determine the percentage of appropriateness of antibiotic use in pneumonia patients using the Gyssens method. This study uses a literature review method. The sample included in the inclusion criteria was 16 literatures consisting of national and international journals. There were 860 patients where 444 patients were male, 251 patients were female and 165 patients were without information. Based on the results of a literature review study using the Gyssens method, the most widely used antibiotics alone or in combination were ceftriaxone; 233 (12%), ampicillin; 105 (12%), and ampicillin-gentamicin; 49 (29%). The use of antibiotics based on the Gyssens line is the rational antibiotic category (0) of 38.36% while the irrational use of antibiotics is 61.38% which is divided into category I; 7.73%, category IIB; 4.41%, category IIA; 12.61%, category IIIB; 8.51%, category IIIA; 4.10%, IVD category; 2.63%, category IVC; 5.18%, category IVB; 2,94%, category IVA; 10.83%, category V; 0.31%, and category VI; 2.40%.
