Abstract

Dlingo leaves (Acorus calamus L.) contain flavonoids and saponins which are used as antibacterial. Based on the compounds contained in dlingo leaves, it can be used as a hand antiseptic. The purpose of this study was to make a hand antiseptic gel formulation of dlingo leaf extract as an antibacterial against S.aureus with a carbopol gel base. This study used three gel formulations with an extract concentration of 1; 5; and 10% with one control formula (without extract). The antibacterial testing method used is diffusion. The hand antiseptic gel was tested for stability and physical quality, including organoleptic, pH, viscosity, homogeneity, dispersibility and adhesion. Then the results were analyzed including data on antibacterial activity and data on physical quality and stability tests. The data were analyzed statistically with the Shapiro-Wilk test followed by the one way ANOVA test and the Paired test. The results showed that dlingo leaf extract can be made into hand antiseptic gel preparations and has antibacterial activity. Hand antiseptic gel with various concentrations of dlingo leaf extract has antibacterial activity. The results of statistical tests on antibacterial activity stated that the formula that had the best antibacterial activity was formula II with a significance value of 0.266.
