Abstract

Burns are a condition of tissue damage or loss caused by contact with a source that has a very high temperature. Giving telang flower herbal medicine can heal burns grade IIA because it contains alkaloid compounds, saponins and flavonoids. This study aims to determine the activity and to determine the effective dose of telang flower extract on healing second-degree burns. This research used maceration extraction method with 70% ethanol. The test animals used in the form of rabbits were divided into 5 treatment groups, namely positive control, negative control and telang flower extract at a dose of 1.5 mg/kgBB, 3 mg/kgBB, and 6 mg/kgBB for 14 days. The parameters observed were the measurement of the diameter of the burn using the Morton method, and the observation of burn erythema. Data analysis used Two Way ANOVA statistical analysis followed by Duncan's method. This study showed that the ethanolic extract of telang flower has healing activity for second-degree burns with the parameters of burn diameter, healing percentage and erythema intensity at an effective dose of 6 mg/kgBB.
