Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and accompanied by disturbances in carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism. Leaves of kluwih (Artocarpus camansi) contain flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and steroids/triterpenoids that can be used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to determine the antihyperglycemic activity of the combination of kluwih leaves extract and glibenclamide in mice induced by alloxan. The test animals used were 30 male white mice (Mus musculus L.) where each group of test animals consisted of 5 mice. Group I was hyperglycemia control (CMC Na 0.5%), group II was drug control (glibenclamide 0.65 mg/kg BW mice), group III was given kluwih leaves extract 50 mg/kg BW mice, group IV, V, and VI were added a combination of kluwih leaves extract and glibenclamide with each ratio (1:½, ¾:½, ½:½). The treatment is given for 14 days and measurement performed on days 7 and days 14. The data obtained were analyzed by the One Way ANOVA method. The results obtained were the combination of ethanol extract of kluwih leaves and glibenclamide had antihyperglycemic activity in male mice induced by alloxan. Combination of kluwih leaf ethanol extract and glibenclamide ½:½ (25 mg: 0.325 mg/kg mice) showed an effective dose in lowering blood glucose levels.
