Abstract
Gel is a semi solid preparation containing an active component that has a dispersed phase. Butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea L.) has several compounds, namely flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids, and anthocyanins. Propionibacterium acnes is one of the bacteria that causes acne. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical quality and stability of the butterfly pea ethanol extract gel formulation with variations in glycerin concentration and antibacterial inhibitory activity against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. This study was made in four formulas with variations in the concentration of glycerin 2; 4; 6; 8 and used a concentration of 13% of the butterfly pea extract. The results of each formula were tested for physical quality, namely organoleptic tests, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, adhesion, dispersibility, and stability tests. The method to observe the inhibition of bacteria is the diffusion method. Statistical analysis using the SPSS program, namely One way Anova and to determine homogeneity using Kolmogorov Smirnov from the SPSS program. The test results showed that the variation of glycerin affected the physical quality and stability of the ethanol extract of the butterfly pea gel. Variations in the concentration of glycerin in the gel affect the viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion of the gel. The higher the concentration of glycerin, the lower the value of viscosity, adhesion, and the higher the spreadability. The results showed that the six samples in the antibacterial activity test gave an inhibitory power of 14,8 mm with a strong category against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. In the Kruskal Wallis test, the sig value was obtained. 0.107>0.05, so there is no significant difference in sample 1 to sample 4, sample 9 and sample 10.
