Abstract
The use of the drug glibenclamide has side effects in the form of hypoglycemic. Melinjo leaves contain flavonoid compounds that can be used to lower blood glucose levels. The goal of the study was to test the antihyperglycemic activity of a combination of melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.) leaf extract and glibenclamide in alloxan-induced white male mice. The study used male white mice test animals divided into 6 groups with each group consisting of 5 mice. Group 1 (K-), group 2 (K+) glibenclamide 0,65 mg/kgBB, group 3 single-dose melinjo leaf extract 300 mg/kgBB, group 4 combination of melinjo leaf extract and glibenclamide ½ : 1/2, group 5 combination of melinjo leaf extract and glibenclamide ¾ : 1/2, group 6 combination of melinjo leaf extract and glibenclamide 1 : 1/2. Blood glucose level measurements were taken on days-0, 5, 12, 19 using glucometers, then the data analyzed One Way Anova. The results of this study showed that single-dose melinjo leaf extract, a combination dose of melinjo leaf extract, and glibenclamide was able to lower blood glucose levels significantly. The effective dose of the combination of melinjo leaf extract and glibenclamide is ½ : 1/2 (150 mg/kgBB : 0,325 mg/kgBB) because it is able to lower the level of blood glucose induced by alloxan equivalent to the administration of glibenclamide as a decrease in blood glucose levels.
