Abstract
Antifungal is a drug effect that can inhibit the growth of fungi. The inhibition of the fungus Candida albicans on a plant was due to the presence of alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, tanins, saponins, and essential oils. One of the plants that play a role in antifungal activity is bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum W.). Emulgel preparations consist of an emulsion and a gel phase. The use of emulgel preparations in order to assist in topical application as an antifungal drug. The purpose of this study to determine the ethanolic extract of bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum W.) can be made emulgel preparations with good physical quality, stability, and determine the activity of emulgel and the formula that has the best antifungal activity. In this study, the emulgel formulation of ethanolic extract of bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum W.) was made using 4 formulations with different concentrations of active substances, namely concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. The preparation of ethanol extract of bay leaf emulgel was carried out by testing the stability and physical quality. Physical quality tests carried out included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion, pH, viscosity, emulgel emulsion type, and Cycling test. The antifungal activity was tested by disc diffusion method. Analysis of the data obtained were analyzed by SPSS application with One way anova, Paired t- test and Dunnett T3 test. The results showed that the ethanol extract emulgel preparations of bay leaves with various concentrations of extracts had good physical quality and stability. The results of statistical analysis of physical quality and stability are said to be good with no significant difference (sig > 0.05). Variations in extract concentration greatly affect the antifungal activity. The results of the antifungal activity of the extract formulation at each concentration obtained inhibition zones of 0±0 mm, 10,75±5,06 mm, 14,92±3,26 mm, 17,25±2,46 mm. Formula 4 is the best because it has good physical stability and quality, and has a higher yield of inhibitory adultery. Keywords : Bay leaf ethanol extract, emulgel, diffusion method, antifungal
