Abstract
Infections of the skin can be caused by various agents, one of which is bacteria. One of the bacteria that causes skin infections is Staphylococcus epidermidis. The treatment used for bacteria is antibiotics. White cambodian flowers (Plumeria alba) contain terpenoid compounds, saponins, tannins, and flavonoids that have antibacterial activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of extracts and fractions of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and white cambodian flower water against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228, and to determine the strongest antibacterial activity of the extracts and fractions of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and white cambodian flower water. Extraction of white cambodian flowers using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent, fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water as solvents. Antibacterial activity test of white cambodian flower extract and fraction using disc diffusion method with concentrations of 20%, 30%, and 40%. The data collected from the test results of the inhibition of white frangipani flower extract against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 were analyzed using One Way ANOVA. Based on the results of the study, it showed that the extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction contained flavonoid compounds, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids which had antibacterial activity, except for the n-hexane fraction which did not contain flavonoids and terpenoids. The ethyl acetate fraction was the most active fraction in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 with an inhibition zone diameter of 22,8 mm.
