Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a dangerous disease called diabetes or chronic degenerative disease. Hypertension acts as a major risk factor for DM and causes other symptoms in target organs. Drug interactions in the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus complications of hypertension cause uncontrolled blood glucose levels and blood pressure. This study aims to determine the profile of drug use and potential drug interactions in the treatment of type 2 DM patients with hypertension complications. This is a descriptive non-experimental study to collect retrospective data on type 2 DM patients who were treated for complications of hypertension by purposive sampling method. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, there were 60 patients who met the criteria to determine the potential for drug interactions to occur using Medscape software and Stockley's Drug Interaction Handbook. The results showed that there was a potential for drug interactions in patients with type II DM with hypertension complications at the Inpatient Installation of RSUD Ibu Fatmawati Soekarno in 2021 including pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic, and unknown interactions with a percentage (87.26%), (2.94%) , (9.80%), and minor, moderate, and major severity levels (25.49%), (72.55%), (1.96%). The most widely used therapy was Metformin monotherapy (21.67%) for antidiabetic and Amlodipine monotherapy (60%) for antihypertensive.
