Abstract

Hair dye preparations are decorative cosmetics used in hair make-up to color hair, restore the original hair color or change the original hair color to a new color. Rosella flowers contain anthocyanin pigments so that they can be used as natural dyes. The purpose of this study was to determine the preparation of hair dye cream rosella flower extract had physical quality, good color stability within 4-6 weeks and to find out the best dosage formula. The extraction method used in this study was maceration with 96% ethanol and 1% citric acid as solvent. Rosella flower extract hair coloring cream formula was made into 4 formulas with different concentrations of active substances, namely 0%, 15%, 30% and 40%. Evaluation of the physical quality of cream preparations included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, color stability, color stability to washing, color stability to sunlight and hedonic. The results of the physical quality evaluation data were analyzed using One-Sample Kolmogory-Smirnov analysis and paired T-Test. The results of physical quality stability indicate F1, F2, F3 and F4 are stable in organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, scattering power, and adhesion. The results of the color stability test on washing show the colors produced on F1, F2, F3, and F4 are unstable after 8 washing. The results of color stability to sun exposure show the color of the hair produced from F1, F2, F3, and F4 unstable. The irritation test results show that the entire hair coloring cream preparation formula does not cause irritation to 10 respondents. The hedonic test results showed 20 respondents liked F4 (dark red) and F2 (orange). Formula 4 and 2 has the most preferred physical dosage and color stability and can be formulated into a hair dye cream preparation. Keywords: Roselle flower extract, cream, hair dye
