Abstract
Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L) is a plant that functions as a strong antioxidant because it contains phenolic compounds that can be formulated into lotion preparations. Lotion is a cosmetic preparation that can give a soft taste and does not feel greasy when applied. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of stearic acid and triethanolamine in the preparation of ethanol extract of chocolate fruit peel (Theobroma cacao L.) lotion on antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The extraction method in this study used the maceration with 70% ethanol as a solvent. The extract obtained was made in a lotion formulation with various concentrations of triethanolamine and stearic acid. Examination of the physical quality of lotion preparations included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, lotion emulsion type, and Cycling test. The antioxidant activity test method used the DPPH method which was seen from the IC50 value. The results of the study on the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of cocoa rind had an IC50 value of 15.22%. Variations in the concentration of triethanolamine and stearic acid affect the physical quality of the lotion preparation, namely the pH and viscosity. Formula 1 is the best lotion preparation with a variation of 2% triethanolamine concentration and 7% steic acid concentration which has very strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 18.83%.
